It is used to correct a broad range of vision issues with a stunning degree of accuracy. The reason iLASIK provides such impressive results is that it combines two unique procedures into one. The first is called IntraLASIK, which utilizes the Intralase Femtosecond Laser and the second is Advanced CustomVue Wavefront Guided Custom LASIK.

THE LASIK PROCESS

The process begins by using Wavescan technology to create a three-dimensional map of the eye. Since every eye is unique, this 3-D map allows your doctor to carefully plan and customize your procedure. The map identifies unique corneal imperfections and shows how they should be corrected. This information is then entered into the computer that guides the laser.

The Intralase laser creates a corneal flap. The superficial surface of the cornea is simply a regenerative skin cell layer so the eye must be reshaped on the secondary layer of the cornea, known as the stroma. Prior to the Intralase laser, a bladed device, called a microkeratome, was used to create this flap. Switching to an all-laser procedure has made the LASIK procedure significantly safer and more precise.

The final step is completed using the VISX Star 4 laser. It takes virtually seconds to complete, and during the process your eye is being followed with a digital eye tracking system. This custom treatment has been shown in studies to decrease the incidence of evening glare and haloes, which were associated with older types of LASIK procedures.

iLASIK is safe, fast and relatively painless. It is considered the best approach to laser vision correction.
